“This blessing re-energizes my body…the ability to run with Back on My Feet has helped reshape me, giving me the strength to find a job and the desire to believe in myself again.” - Chris

Chris was living at a homeless shelter in Long Beach when he found Back on My Feet – who he attests “reshaped him and gave him a desire to believe in himself again.” Chris was quiet and shy when he came out for those first morning runs. But underneath that shy exterior there was a driven individual who just needed a hand up to get his life back on track.

As part of Back on My Feet’s comprehensive Next Steps training program, Chris participated in job readiness training led by Back on My Feet’s employment partner Marriott International where he was personally asked to apply for a position within the local Marriott. After Chris was offered the job with Marriott, he used a financial aid grant from Back on My Feet to make some necessary repairs on his car so he could drive to work. Every day, Chris is learning new skills and is doing so well that he was recently promoted to a managerial position at Marriott! Chris credits his renewed confidence, self-esteem and success to the support of Back on My Feet and in particular, his teammates from the morning runs.

You can often find Chris at the morning runs with a huge smile on his face and a new story about his hard work. Chris is surpassing each goal he set for himself, both with his running and at work.  He is continuing to raise the bar for himself and achieving things he never thought possible – including becoming the first Member in Los Angeles to reach 1,000 miles!
